I would love to improve of the poorer aspects of it, especially replacing the guitar solo with a sax, now we can do that, because of course we published the complete Ron's Piece just last Xmas. So I realise we are in fact already 1/3 the way there to Rendez-Vous 1976 now you mention it! But then, as you note, there are already versions of RV2 and 3 from the 70s, so I'm not immediately entirely sure what's distinctive we could bring to the party.
But that was my point - you don't need to make RV2 and RV3 distinctive. You make them sound more or less the same as their original 70s versions (sans vocals). And this way both "universes" converge nicely.

Yes, possibly. I'm just wary of ending up badly copying a version that already exists. Maybe my choice of "distinctive" was the wrong word? For example, Equinoxe 69 was a much more fluid and improvisational production. Whereas MF75 involved a lot of transcription: outside a few tweaks or extensions, the only major improv of note is in the new solos on MF1a and Souvenir of China. I mean, this obviously is because most of the original live album solos were just so damn good there was no-where to go but down if I attempted anything new, so transcription it be ;) .

Well, fwiw, we have already a complete demo of “Retro Rendez-Vous”, that already sounds pretty good to us. It came together surprisingly quickly (we already had versions Fourth and Last, of course, but those will be a tweaked and hopefully improved too). A fair bit to do still, but we're enjoying this much more like we did with Equinoxe 69, in that way MF turning out to be a ten-year on-and-off-and-abandoned-and-restarted-again chore at times absolutely wasn't

Definitely some [nice? 8) ] surprises in store.

Mind you, Fifth/MfS3 is a bit of a challenge, though. So don't wait up, but it's getting there!

And I really must to get around to finishing the Magnetic Chance singles I promised "in the next few weeks" months ago, including “The Lost Rumba”, which briefly appeared amongst the TV switching...
